Ascent Trip ReportMy third time on the North Ramp and most challenging. Two of us had to climb vertical ~600m on snow, steep snow, bare ice, rotten ice and everything in between. Often front-pointing on full-body belay. Some big runouts and as a bonus at the end, an infamous exposed 55-degree-snow exit traverse (photo: https://peakbagger.com/photo/p17753L.jpg ). Two ice axes (hammer ice tool + regular with long shaft), knee pads and lots of snow/ice pro were good to have. Avalanche danger forecast was low, the snow was stable, and the temps were cool but not cold. Excellent winter alpine project near the city. Would do it again. |
