Ascent Trip ReportSo, this hike went exactly opposite of what I had expected. Many people approach from Pic Paradis which I had already climbed ~11 yrs ago. I noticed in the satellite images a trail that came up from the end of the road by the Chez Yvette restaurant (which I recommend). Since I was staying on this side, driving to the trailhead was much shorter than driving around to the west side for Pic Paradis. So, I went for it.
I pulled in and parked on the dirt road. The trail follows the somewhat grown in dirt road then turns into a maintained trail as it ascends up under the power lines. The trail was pretty well maintained and easy to follow. Once you reach the ridge (the 3rd power line tower I think), the trail merges into the ridge trail that comes over from Pic Paradis. I was expecting the trail to follow the ridge up to Flagstaff and then have to bushwhack over to Flagstaff-Southwest Ridge. But, shortly after the merge, and just after the "house", the trail contours around to the right instead of ascending to Flagstaff. I followed it as I had noticed what looked like a trail ascending the ridge from the other direction in the satellite images. The trail does contour around to the SW and at the ridge there is a spur trail that heads East right to the summit. No bushwhack necesary!!
After a few pics, I retraced my route contouring back around and at the house I thought there would be a trail up to Flagstaff. I tried to bushwhack different areas but everything was overgrown and THICK. I was running out of time so aborted since Flagstaff doesn't really count for anything. I followed the same route back down to the car without any trouble.
