Ascent Trip Report

Beautiful sunny day. Started trail from Dacy Clearing, taking the Mt Erebus trail at junction 1.5mi at bumps pond. Proceeded to second junction and up to Mt Erebus. The trail was well signed and easy to follow, got confused in a few spots because of fresh snowfall and no trace of a trail in areas that were not well marked. Found an easy way to find the trail, was to look at the patterns of dead nettles sticking above the snow on each side of the trail, which put me on the right track until i found the next marker. This area definately does not recieve the same amount of traffic as the other peaks or trails in the area. Didn't bushwack up the cliffs on the high point of the trail, which probally would have turned this into more of a blood-pumping hike. No views. Still, this is an awesome hike, better than i expected, the forest was beautiful and felt far more isolated than alot of the other peaks in the lake george area. Will probally come back in the summer with some friends and bushwack up the cliffs, which looked pretty easy.
Didnt require snowshoes, microspikes were fine only a few inches. Road from shelving rock rd hogtown trailhead to dacy clearing was fine, i did use 4x4 though on my SUV.
