Ascent Trip Report

There's a ranch road on NM State trust land that parallels NM-102 (Bueyeros Highway) west of the mountain. The ranch road is accessed off NM-420 not far from its the junction with NM-102. It has a soft road surface so not advisable for non-4WD. As an alternate, you can start from NM-102. It only adds about 2/10 mile each way. Keep in mind the mountain is on private land but its not posted or fenced. I've found that rancher's consider NM trust land they lease as their own when it abuts private land. NM trust lands are not public, there are access limitations but they are often not posted. I get a state land access permit every year from the NM state land office to ensure no access issues. If you plan on doing the other two mountains close by that are part of the Black Hills you will see a small NM State land sign posted. See my post on Peak 5001.
