Ascent Trip ReportI think our ~mile per hour average pace demonstrates how this one went, especially as the first mile is on the Sunset Trail.
We didn't have issues finding the use trail as others have described (in fact, accidentally bypassing the spot where others have turned off the Sunset Trail may have aided in this--we picked it up at a metal post and came in from the north, joining others' GPS tracks around the game stand). And we found the use trail to be mostly quite clear, though close inspection of my track will show it diverging from others' when I got turned around in thick bush.
The use trail is overgrown, though, and we had to push through with moderate force, especially from ~1.5 miles in to the top. This is one I would hesitate to do in summer; most of the poison oak we saw (and we saw plenty!) is in its winter recess and posed less of a concern than if it was at peak bushiness. Our periodic tick checks were continually fruitful, and thankfully we caught them all before they attached.
As often on less-trafficked peaks, I was glad to be able to follow the spaghetti tracks of other users' GPX as needed and when the path of the use trail eluded me. Many thanks to those who contribute.
34/100 on the SD100 for me.
