Ascent Trip Report

Brian Bockhahn's 2008 directions are still good--including the phone number to call for permission. I called on a Saturday and received permission on Sunday.

On the way up, I noticed a series of hand-painted road signs, starting with ...
U MAY NOT

Next ...
COME OFF THIS

Finally ...
HILL ALIVE

Knowing that the land is used by a hunting club, I was glad to have permission.

On the way down, I saw that I had missed the 1st sign that completely changed the tone of the message ...

IF OVER 12MPH U DRIVE
U MAY NOT
COME OFF THIS
HILL ALIVE

Actually, the road is well-graded, well-maintained, and easily driveable by car. Except for the switchbacks near the top, you could safely go faster, but to keep the dust down, keep it to 12mph.

BM Hickory 1933 is in a circle of stone at the end of the road.

The summit is wooded and views are limited.

My 48th COHP and 25th of 100 in NC.
