Ascent Trip Report

If you are planning to visit, note that Baker Mountain Park is closed Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.

The COHP is beyond the park boundaries on private property. Tell the ranger that you want to go to the county high-point, and he will give you permission and directions. Assure him that you are not going near the towers, which are on the lower summit.

The trails here are steeper than I expected for a Piedmont hill.

From the parking lot, take the red-blazed trail about a half mile and then turn right onto the orange trail, which leads about one-third of a mile uphill to a gazebo and deck with a fine view of the Blue Ridge to the N and W. With the rangers permission, continue uphill past the "Trail Closed" signs and in less than five minutes you'll cross the middle summit. Turn left and continue another five minutes to the NE summit, where the timber has been thinned out. The BM and RM are fairly easy to find.

My 46th COHP and 23rd in NC.
