Ascent Trip Report

We started from the Todd Creek trailhead on Sooke River Road, just outside the Sooke Potholes Park Gate. The trail follows the creek drainage and is often a creek itself. Forded the river once and took a detour to see Peden Lake. The trail follows an old logging road that is overgrown but passable. The undergrowth and trees were covered in new and falling snow, which made for a lot of snow down the neck and wet clothes. We summited at noon as the snow fell in earnest and the wind picked up. Visibility was limited to a few hundred meters. We had a rest and a bite in some trees on the top then headed down and met another pair of hikers on the way up to the summit. One wrong turn on the way down had us briefly heading up another hill, but we sorted that out and were back to the truck by 2:30 as the sky started to clear. A good outing and deserving of a stop in the 17 Mile House for a couple of Lucky.
