Ascent Trip Report

Finally a county HP that you can make a decent little excercise trip. Put on my new boots LaSportiva non flexible mountaineering boots and wanted to see how they felt on something steep (brand new). The weather was poor, had rained all the previous day and was cloudy, windy, and cold with some drizzle. Started at the power line easement off Camp Road (later called Fire Tower Road) and parked car in pull out by hairpin curve. There are some Forest hiking trails nearby (Laurel Mountain State Lands) but the trails were not steep enough and i was not sure whether they would go to the HP. Near for sure but i did not have time to explore - still had 2 more state HPs to get after this.

Careful - this site shows the HP at the fire tower not the radio tower which can be a drive up. Either way you can trek between them - they are not far apart.

The easement is steep and muddy but the boots held well enough and no blisters. At the top is a really cool metal fire tower but they removed the ladder so you can not climbe to the top. The radio tower is nearby connected by an ATV maintenance trail. OK views but poor weather. Just glad to get some excercise with a county HP!
