Ascent Trip ReportBushwack/scramble up a steep enbankment from the north side ....... 1km, 45 minutes RT.
****NB: THIS HP WAS CONSIDERED TO BE THE GATINEAU COHP, UNTIL EARLIER THIS YEAR, WHEN AS A RESULT OF A STUDY DONE BY GABRIEL COUET, A HIGHER ELEVATION WAS FOUND FURTHER WEST "COLLINE DE LA BLACK" (see its TR).
From Papineau County Highpoint we found-our-way/drove-west on Hwy #50 to exit 174 (east of Buckingham), then East on Chemin Doherty for 2km to a left on a private driveway (mailbox #1154). we drove (both sides fenced) for .8km to a track on the right, drive in and park here, this is the TH. This is private property, I went to the construction site type house for permission, no one was home, I decided to proceed as my hike was well away from the house. No one came around to check on Rose as she waited in the van.
Walk the grass track west 100 meters, the track bends left/descends 70 meters to a wide stream, cross the stream on a rough log bridge, (luckily to have found the bridge). Staying right and looking for the "easy way" I climbed/scrambled south up the steep enbankment to the summit area at about half a kilometer. Mostly open woods with low dense underbrush and rough footing.
There are a number of bumps that contend for the Highpoint, I chose the one with my GPS reading 45.59756, 75.36385, elevation 183 meters. No views to speak of.
"SOMETIMES ITS MORE IMPORTANT TO DISCOVER WHAT ONE CANNOT DO .... THAN WHAT ONE CAN DO."
