After Crafts Peak we camped Saturday night at Hana Flat Campground for the final night of the season. Then Sunday morning we hiked Butler Peak.
With the extended road closures still in effect, starting point is currently from Rim of The World gate to 2N13. Major damage on each section of road
will require repairs before reopening. Beautiful day for our hike with all the leaves in fall colors. Grabbed a couple geocaches along the way, recommend
geocache named The Owl's Nest. Tower was closed but stairs were fully open to the upper and lower decks.
Outstanding views in all directions of many of the Big Bear summits and San Bernardino Mountains. Crafts Reference Benchmark No. 1 is clearly visible on
a boulder to the left of the upper staircase. We did not locate Reference No. 2. The Triangulation Station Benchmark was placed in 1928. The fire tower
was built in 1935-1936 directly over the benchmark. It is in rock right under the center beam of the tower. With some careful maneuvering I got myself under
the tower and to the benchmark for the photo. Click photo to enlarge.
