Ascent Trip ReportI've been wanting to try the "old" route to this high point, accessing through Weyerhaueser off of Hwy 6. It worked. We parked at the first gate right off of the highway and biked up to near the highpoint, then walked along the overgrown road on the ridge to the highpoint clearing. There were multiple trucks out on the logging roads, which seemed to be hunters. Logging activity was paused for the day (Saturday) but appears to be active in the area based on the equipment present along the roads. The first gate was open when we started and locked when we got back to the car, so I'm glad we didn't try to drive up :) None of the trucks stopped us to ask about permits or anything like that; it seems like some of them must have the Weyerhaueser permits or keys due to the gate being locked later in the day. Road was perfect for my gravel bike. Along the ridgeline we saw cat, bear, and elk sign which were all quite fresh.
This makes 30/39 for my WA county high points!
I had to smooth the gpx file a bit to get the upload to work so hopefully the track is legible. |
