Ascent Trip Report

My 2 wd low clearance Nissan NV 200 made it easily to "Bates Well" site the evening before the hike and we car camped there. 25$ fee for each vehicle was placed in an envelope at the Organ Pipe Cactus Wilderness park entrance area. A Border patrol vehicle came a few minutes after our arrival to ask us what our intentions were and then said he would inform the night crew of our intent. The next morning at 0530 as we were getting ready they came by again and spoke with us and warned us about potential safety issues! However none were noted during the hike, we saw no one during the hike and only saw large empty water bottles in one area and some canned food in another area with only 2 pieces of discarded clothing noted along the way. Some difficult route findings but like Morehouse says, look for the "ducks" before you proceed! I did add to some duck sites to make them more visible. Our route distance was 15.5 miles on the Garmin device and 2851 feet of gain. Some dicey areas of class 3 of which I am not fond of at all! We car camped that night and then drove over to the trailhead of Mount Ajo the following morning. A shout out of thank you's to PB hikers: Vincent and Walker, who gave me some beta on the road and hike prior to my adventure! I am not sure if it is legal to camp at Bates Well area but we only car camped.
