Ascent Trip ReportThis peak is actually pretty nice. Follow my uphill track and it is wide open forest to the top. The ridge east of Pk 4810 to get to Lawson is horrible and not to be repeated unless you like to suffer in brush and on steep heather slopes... River crossing this time of year was knee deep a few hundred feet above the confluence with Rustler Creek. Cross a few hundred feet above the confluence for a nice shallow/wide spot, using the most upstream mid-point rock island to make the crossing. I brought some old running shoes and a hand towel I left on the bank for the return the next day - well worth it. It is much harder to keep to the spine of the ridge on the descent which made for one small unpleasant bushwhack that was easily corrected lower down. If you are working the Olympic Rain Forest peak list, you must love to suffer, but this peak is actually enjoyable. I would recommend my route up as very nice open forest, just a lot of uphill and a cold river crossing; it could easily be a day hike. As soon as you set foot east of Pk 4810, the ridge gets unpleasant. Fay Pullen register from 2017 and I was the next entry. Summit has 360 views! Didn't see a soul car to car across 2 days even on the trail sections; my car was the only one in the parking lot when I departed Sat AM and still the only car when I returned around 5:30pm Sun.
