Ascent Trip Report

This one was personal. About 7 years ago, I attempted this summit, and for multiple reasons (one of which was getting off the trail) we didn't make it. I've been on the lookout for a second opportunity since. So now I only have one failed climb to redeem, which was attempting Mt. Fuji during a typhoon (many years ago before the invention of smart phones to alert one of such hazards in a foreign country).

The Beus Canyon Trail can essentially be split into three parts. The first approx third of the path goes up the canyon among full grown trees and following the stream until a sharp turn to the right. This turn is where I missed it 7 years ago, and by the looks of it, I'm not the only one that does so. A nice stack of dead branches alerts others to cross the water and continue to the south. The second third climbs and crosses to the south side of the ridge and continues a steady ascent among waist high or lower brush and bush. Long sleeves and pants are a must... unless you want the scratches. The final third starts when cresting this ridge and getting back to the north side. From here you roughly follow the top of the ridge among rock and grass until getting to the antennas on Mt Ogden. The final bit is a steep climb on a service road full of scree. Getting to the very top still requires a 10 ft "technical" climb (not really) to the survey point and the two plaques next to the helicopter landing spot. (or a small walk around to the steps, but the climb is more fun). Great views of Ogden, Hill AFB, and Snowbasin Resort from the top.
