Ascent Trip ReportPeakbagger lists this as USFS land while LOJ's land mgmt layer indicates state land just for the small plot at the top. Pretty sure it is not USFS but anyway, at present there is no access issue. Weird sort of slightly creepy area especially at dusk. Above the lower farm residences there is a paved road which first goes right past a lower security type prison and then winds up at a very modest ski area with a few runs of perhaps a 1000' vertical drop. Looks like very much a mom and pop type operation. i'm sure it's nice if you're local and your expectations are properly calibrated. Anyway, above here are more rural residential properties and then near the top there was an open gate with a sign saying that due to vandalism this gate may be locked in the future. This sign was vandalized, which, I'm not sure if it that is ironic or not? Regardless, gate was open and there is nothing anywhere saying you can't be there but the whole area felt non-public. Road continues to a final few forks with dirt tracks going to the comm tower summits. Tag the top and leave. Roads are fine for a car. |
