Ascent Trip Report

Elwell deets: After Fillmore we drove to the TH for Elwell. We took the scenic route around Long lake. My knee was still a little annoyed with me so we only ran the ups and hiked all the downs and flats. So much bear scat! No bear sightings.
The entire day is on trail except for the class 2 summit scramble. There are cairns showing where to split off for the summit. No water sources aside from detouring down towards one of the lakes or the creek at the very beginning. It was pretty smokey when we were out. The lungs were starting to feel it at the top.

Full trip report (Fillmore, Elwell, Haskell, Sierra Buttes):
The drive out to Fillmore will be easiest with 4wd and high clearance. We were out there early and didn't run into anyone coming at us on the road. Luckily, it would be very hard for two cars to get by each other in certain sections. There is a fire road to follow the first half mile, then it's xc up the ridge and to the summit. Minimal bushwhacking. All the manzanita is pretty small still and easy to step on. Light scrambling over one rock formation when continuing up the ridge. The summit had glass all over it. So annoying. If anyone is planning on going up there soon, the summit is in need of a new register jar or can. The current plastic one has a crack in it and the notebook inside won't withstand the winter.

After Elwell we drove to the TH for Haskell. Haskell was short and straightforward. Also all trail and a small Shaley summit push. We followed the route that Google recommended- I wouldn't if it doesn't say to take Haskell peak trail road. It took us through the cuts of fire roads and there were so many downed trees and super narrow sections, we used Caltopo to get us back on "Haskell Peak Trail road" and that was very smooth going all the way to the TH.
From there we drove to The Sierra Buttes. One of the tracks we had downloaded had us starting off some very faint trail with no TH. It eventually connected to the PCT but we just decided to drive to the PCT TH. We parked there and then within a Half mile saw the actual Sierra Buttes TH and parking area. I would just park there. Another very straight forward hike. All trail (PCT) or fire road. Three flights of steep stairs to the fire lookout. My husband (Michael Jaskot) has a times listed out for our entire day on his page if you're interested in doing these four Sierra Butte area Oguls in a day. We did do some running, but also did a lot of hiking because of my knee.
