Ascent Trip ReportI climbed Morrison in record time in only 53 minutes. It was rewarding to pass this young college kid that started with me at the same time and passed me and then could not keep pace and stopped after 150 feet of vertical. I passed him, topped out the 2000 foot 2 mile climb in 53 minutes and then did both of these county park HPs bushwhacking, for another 1.5 miles then came back to the peak and ate my lunch then descended and passed him and all the other groups I passed on the way up and none had made the summit yet. This is my strongest year yet and feeling fast on my feet which is nice as I turn 59 this month.
At the summit, I scoped out the way to Covill's two Jeffco HPs. you can follow and unmaintained trail down towards to the next tower. Seeing a maintenance truck in the drive of the tower, I climbed down out of view along a cliff edge to make sure I would no be disturbed and then headed up the second tower via the maintenance road and over to where there is a port-o-let> following the fence line around the enclosed tower be careful with the trimmed pine tree along the steep slope along the fence. I got jabbed pretty badly in the chest by a trimmed branch. There a tons of signs warning that the exposure to the radio frequency for too long will scramble your brains or something.
On the backside of the fence there is another awkward fence you have to hop to tag the obvious HP in the park and then go back the way you came. That was the "alternate point" Covill plugged in and an obvious one along the fence when you find it. Then retracing my steps down the maintenance road I found a clearing in the pine trees and headed up a steep slope and found a class 2+/3 slab of rock to get clear and followed the track to this HP. It is easily marked by stakes in the field and a Jeffco Boundary sign when you find this point.
With both done, I climbed back up to Morrison had lunch and hurried back to my truck. My track for both is posted on the "alternate" HP which is the second peak on this journey this it the third. The metrics for both HPs are shown on this entry for ease and not on the third HP.
