Ascent Trip ReportThe gps track shows both the road and the hike. The hike portion is up and back while the road is just one way. The approach I took is very steep. I found it easiest to go up the dark colored rock, the soil is looser. Coming down the soil worked best as one can sort of glissade. The views from the summit are very nice.
The roads: Leonard Creek Road from NV-140 to the Leonard Creek Ranch has some washboard, but not too bad. After Leonard Creek Ranch the road gets better and after the Battle Creek Ranch it is very good. The lesser road, "designated route", starts off good, but gets a little rocky and very dusty closer to the TH.
Side note: while on the summit I watched the rancher from Paradise Meadows Ranch round up and herd cattle with a helicopter. I thought it would have been nice to catch a ride to the summit. A worse side note: while on the drive home after this summit I had an accident which ended up with my truck down in a ravine and a lost ATV. |
