Ascent Trip Report

Started at Hurricane Creek TH with Jason Fidorra and my pup, Brodie. Easy to follow trail until you reach a large boulder field (in our case this field was partially snowed over with some ice). Field not difficult, but definitely slows down the pace for a bit. Easy to follow maps/GPS readings from the end of the trail to Legore Lake. We got a few inches of snow overnight that we weren’t expecting, on top of the few inches of snow we also weren’t expecting to see, and at this point were feeling pretty unprepared without traction... spent about 15 hours in the tent hiding from the low 20 degree weather, wind, and snow, and then decided to go for it! The slope was pretty easy, even without camping or axe, all the way to the summit block. Dog did great too!

We made it to the bottom of the fin and were hoping for a sketchy, but doable staircase. I sat with the dog while Jason attempted. The attempt was difficult and slow since the already sketchy “steps” were made up of extremely loose rock and covered in a dusting of slick snow. The summit appears to have changed since any of the other peakbagger posts and summit post photos. Rather than being off to the right and “tappable” after a climb, it is now behind what is a false summit, and would maaaaaybe be doable if conditions were perfect... alas, they weren’t, and as I watched Jason slowly down climb with scary consequences below him, I decided it wasn’t worth the risk for me to even get a look. We turned around and went all the way to the enterprise for lunch.

Will be back next summer!
