Ascent Trip Report

I parked at the Rayonier gate just 100 yards above somebody's house. I went around the gate at the bottom and quickly made my way up the road. There was a Tacoma parked at the yellow gate ~1,900 ft. I ran into the Tacoma owner, Dennis, just below the "iron gate" at ~3,300 ft as he referred to it. We walked and chatted for about 5 minutes. He owned a nearby cabin and said that there were no issues with non-motorized non-hunters using the roads here to hike and MTB. The neighbors just don't like noisy ATVs/dirt bikes. He was headed to the old lookout that is on the lower/west Watch Mtn summit. I would bet that the lookout is in excellent condition due to the lack of public visitation. I was not headed for the lookout, but the P1500ft peak, so I took the road to the SW at the 4-way intersection at 4,100 ft. I ditched my bike at 4,400 ft at the end of the road and hiked the final short bit to the summit through the steep forest to open slopes above and the fun, short scramble up the north summit and then real summit. Stunning views of the 4 volcanoes of course from this clear, open summit. The bomb back to the car took about 30 minutes once I arrived back at the bike. Peak was much better than I anticipated. Pics
