Ascent Trip ReportWhile Kent and Allison waited for me, I hiked down the ridge from Trail #005 through some open areas and through a bit of Gamble Oak bushwhacking toward the GSENM-HP. There are many cow and game trails so I picked the ones that looked like they were the most used. Near the lowest point of the ridge one must cross the fence separating the NM and FS land. About 100 feet west of the ridge there is a section of fence that was partially flattened and is the easiest place to step over it. Then it is a little up hill to the east-west ridge that leads to the HP. There are no views from the HP as it is tree covered. On my return I noticed a couple benches on the very top of the east-west ridge, thinking they must have been placed there for views I went up to see. There are very nice views to the south and east, but this is a solemn place where people left a memorial stone for Thomas Rex Lyon (1965-2018). R I P. |
