Ascent Trip ReportDolores organized a trip up to Maine for several folks who needed hikes whether it be on their 67 NE 4000 footers or on their Hundred Highest. She was/is so good at figuring out who needed what and so she organized the two days depending on what group/hike you were to go on. So, on this hike, Joe and I went with Norm and Charlie, and I believe it is Spaulding you summit then hike over to the Horns. It was a solid day with gorgeous hiking weather. We did a steep hike up, then a wonderful stroll along the ridge over to 'the horns'. I loved this ridge hike. It was a beautiful day. Not being familiar with the Maine hikes, this was a great one to experience the vastness and exposure you can have on Maine hikes in this area. The views go on forever into valleys and hills beyond and the sense of being in a special place overtakes you and you can feel really feel how nature and hiking can make you feel strong and grounded and purposeful. Charlie took a photo of me on the ridge hike that to this day is one of my favorite photos. Next day we would meet up to hike with Dolores, Rich, Charlie and Norm for our first assisted bushwack up Redington in the rain! |
