Ascent Trip ReportI was down to four trips to finish off my first round of my 46er. I had been saving this hike for a perfect day and this day was perfect, with summit temperatures in the 40s and winds seemingly no more than 10 mph. I was able to make it up to Wright fairly quickly (8:50 to 10:05). It felt quicker than that with fun non slipper rock hops and then large not too steep slab climbs. The exposed section was a joy and I wanted to spend all day on the summit with only a couple people around, but I was pretty excited about those Algonquin views too, so I moved along.
1100 feet gained from the Wright Junction to the Algonquin junction seemed potentially intimidating but the climb resembled the upper portion of the wright climb and was more enjoyable than difficult. I presumed there would be a number of false summits once I made it to the exposed section but it didn't seem that way. Pretty quick all together. The summit views were ideal and there were nice spots to avoid the wind and take in all the views.
The trail from Algonquin to Iroquois was perfect, maybe overgrown in a spot or two. And I might have actually gone left for a bit before realizing I needed to go right to continue on to Boundary and Iroquois, but still perfect. These three mountains felt like an entirely different place than I'd become accustomed to in my first 27 high peaks. Iroquois was windy and there were a few people scattered around. I considered bushwhacking to Shepards Tooth and trying to put something together to make it to Marshall more efficiently but I hadn't done the research ahead of time and decided to be normal and backtrack back to the junction to hit Marshall the normal way.
