Ascent Trip Report

Hiked with Dan and Samson via the Appalachian Trail. We opted not to do the Eyebrow Trail for Sammy's sake, and mine lol. We later heard that there were dogs that went up it more or less fine, but I really didn't want to take the chance. The AT was perfectly nice. The parking lot was about 3/4 full a little after 8AM on this beautiful Saturday. There were some partial views on the way up which were really beautiful. There was a half a dozen other people at the summit. I was happy to see that because of COVID, groups took their turns up the fire tower. The couple before me and Dan went up unfortunately took about 15 minutes taking selfies and photos. All other groups were respectful of the others and took 5 to 7 minutes so that the others arriving at the summit could also have a turn. The views from the top of the fire tower were spectacular!! It was a perfect blue bird day and we could see for miles. The fire tower seems to be a fair-weather fire tower as it doesn't have a cab, but just a deck for the observer. I guess the thought was that if it's wet out, the chance of fire is very low, so no observer needed. The ladder up to the top was pretty scary; Dan had another couple hold on to Sammy's leash so we could go up together.
