Ascent Trip ReportKelley decided to sit this one out, so we parked 0.3 miles north of the Sharkstooth Trailhead at a turn-out along Forest Road 346 where Kelley had 4g. For the hike, I followed James Barlow's 07-23-2018 ascents GPX. From trail number 621, his route goes up through the forest with some brush, then up a mostly talus slope to the ridge, which is very steep at times, then follows the use trail to the summit. For my descent, I followed Eric Kassen's 07-26-2015 descent GPX. His route follows the use trail down the ridge, then drops about 800 vertical feet down a sand filled gully, then angles over to the trail through sometimes moderate brush. To me, the talus slope on James' route is class 2, as well as some parts of the use trail that goes up/down the ridge. Also, I saw about 20 people on the peak today, and about half went up the peak's west ridge, starting from the bottom. |
