Ascent Trip Report

After climbing Hightop Mountain (see trip report), I drove south, parked, and climbed Weaver Mountain. Unlike most (I suspect nearly all) people who visit the summit or at least pass near it on the AT, I parked at Loft Mountain Overlook and bushwhacked for part of my climb. From the west end of the overlook parking area, I did a sort of rising traverse along the west side of the SE ridge of Weaver Mountain until I intersected the AT (see GPS track). "Bushwhack" was literal in this case; the forest in this area has a pretty thick undergrowth of coralberry, Rubus sp., greenbriar, and other thick vegetation that slowed this part of the hike. Once on the AT, I followed the trail north and then did the short bushwhack over to the top of the mountain, which was weedy and offered no views. (Note that this is another peak that in my opinion should not be counted as "climbed" by people who simply walk by on the AT.) Coming down I headed a little west of the route I took coming up and came out on Skyline Drive maybe 200 yards more to the west than where I'd headed up.
