Ascent Trip ReportAfter a morning ascent of Tête du Collier.
From SE, Le Rieu Claret, good trail starts at E end of bridge and angles up R, easy to follow, marked when ir needs to be. Above 2300m, trail becomes less obvious, rocky and bouldery, sparse cairns not easy to follow, I'm mostly following Deiros and Argudo GPS tracks. Main bowl SE of summit, N of Lac d'Amiante is very bouldery, best to keep further S, a little way N of the Lac, then climb to N end of Col d'Amiante, via easy gully not obvious from a distance, see GPS waypoint. Then straightforward ascent R up bouldery ridge to summit marked by large square cairn, with stonebuilt roofless shelter to E. In cloud with glimpses of rough towers and big drops.
I make a poor job of the navigation, my mind too focussed on forward planning the last week of my trip. I climb R too soon for the summit, visit a tower on E ridge then retrace my steps. I don't fancy the Deiros route, looks steep and chossy. At the Col d'Amiante I don't like the look of the direct route to R (actually easy) and instead climb L to its S end. It's not possible to follow the crest (technical) but I manage to bypass it on L side - exposed, worrying in places but works OK; I take the easier direct descent from the col.
I make a better job of the descent, getting down at sunset. 3h15 up, 5mins on summit, 1h50 down.

I then cross into Italy, climbing Monte Nudo next morning, then a few days in Switzerland before spending the last week of my trip in SE Germany, where the low Covid-19 infection rates mean this time counts towards my 14-day quarantine on returning to the UK.
