Ascent Trip Report

After the previous ascent of lower neighbour Montagne de Céüse.

From SSW, trailhead parking reached via tiny settlement of La Montagne. Good trail; I made a small detour to the Grotte de la Combe d'Aurouze, found a shallow cave 50m S of the expected location; alternatively there's a possible cleft higher up which looks hard to reach. Then continued to ridge and turned L to summit, which has a toppled metal cross, a trig block and a beautifully crafted but damaged viewfinder. Descended W, past the Observatoire, passing a group walking E, then to Tete de la Cluse, good to visit the W summit of this obviously double-topped mountain. Has a wooden cross, shelter cairn and trig block, and a fine view. Returned E to col then easy (rubbly) descent into upper part of Combe de Mal and followed trail down, well defined but quite rough scree in places, taken slowly out of respect for my trail shoes (and ankles). Rejoined my ascent route - nice circuit. Probably around 5h30 round trip - I wrote a TR at the time which has disappeared into the ether...

Pic de Bure photos

After a longish drive SE, in the evening I 'climbed' Mont Ventoux.
