Ascent Trip ReportOriginal goal was Thirtynine mile but the area was completely swarmed with hunters and no safe place to park or hike. Bailed to Black Mtn which worked out well. Public. See the track for hiking and driving. High speed dirt until 9043' fork. Then good road but with significant rutting so ride the rail. Pass through two wire crumple gates. It does get a bit rocky at one point and then when you drop down a dip as you enter USFS land it gets quite steep, you might need 4WD for this. Past that it's rough and then a quick left on an ATV track until it quickly ends gets you to parking at 10,820. The track isn't much, it's barely discernible that you're still on a road when it ends. From there I was able to thread the route pretty well through the forest. I wouldn't call it open sunny type forest but there is enough space that you really don't need to bushwhack at all. Ken J's track helped but the route is also fairly direct. Some meadows and then steep terrain off the N and E sides. A bit of view at the top. Some rain but no lightning so yay for that. Descent was uneventful. GPS very helpful for finding your car since you are hitting the cul-de-sac end of the road head on. |
