Ascent Trip Report

Long ago and far away, I climbed this peak but failed to enter the details here at Peakbagger. It was January 27, 2018 and a while back, so I'm vague on the details. I do have my GAIA track.

Trailhead is at the Elfin Forest Preserve. It's a long, steady slog up a slightly steep incline until you get to the top. Trail is plainly marked and fairly well maintained with shade structures for rest areas. There are a number of plausible peaks but the "true" Mount Israel is the one with all the dog collars nailed to a post. Views include the watershed of the Olivenhain Water District and the creeping intrusion of civilization on all sides. Particularly obscene is the gleaming silver building of Palomar Hospital. The area surrounding Elfin Forest is also infamous for its stories of witchcraft and hauntings. Worth a Google search.

Hike down was uneventful and the local incidence of gravity is a bonus. Visitor Center at Elfin Forest is worth a look.
