Ascent Trip Report

Attached is my driving and hiking route for Big Valley Bluff, Helester Point and other nearby peaks. Texas Hill Road is paved to the fork near Texas Hill Spring - the left fork leads to Big Valley Bluff and the right fork is signed to Helester Point. The dirt road to Big Valley Bluff can be driven by any AWD. There are excellent views at the former lookout tower site which overlooks the North Fork of the American River canyon. The dirt road to Helester Point is also in fairly decent condition but deteriorates near Sawtooth Ridge. The right fork past Willmont Saddle looks promising but it becomes quite steep as it rejoins the other road at the saddle before Helester Point. The left fork is narrow due to downed trees but a better option. It is best to park at the saddle and walk the remaining short distance to the former lookout tower. No views.
