Ascent Trip ReportBagged as part of SB6K challenge.
From the Mount Mitchell summit parking lot, head north on the Deep Gap/Black Mountains Crest Trail. The trail slowly descends through a wonderful picnic area before a nicely built rock staircase brings you down into the gap between Mitchell and Craig. From here, the trail steeply climbs up Craig and devolves into a scramble at several points. Be careful in wet weather. The trail emerges at the summit, which is a large cleared area with expansive views of Mitchell and the SW ridge of the Black Mountains. The high point is a large rock to the right of the trail. There is an obvious benchmark, however I noticed the true highest point is about five feet behind the benchmark, hidden under a fraser fir.
