Ascent Trip ReportPemi-Loop attempt part two
Attempted a full Pemi, which would have been 32 miles and 10k vertical. Ended up cutting it “short.” We decided to bail out at mile 16.5, after having gained 7k vert. This was going to leave us with 15 miles to go back to the trailhead, same as if we continued on, but we would avoid all the remaining 2-3k vertical feet.
Unfortunately in a poor decision, after heading down into the wilderness, rather than taking a path of 3.5 miles and no elevation we opted for what looked like 3.2 miles with “some” elevation. This turned out to be an extra 1000ft, which put us almost at what there would have been if we just continued on the full Pemi.
Regardless, it seems this was the right decision. We avoided some difficult terrain and some strenuous segments, and eventually made our way back to the car!
