I left Owen County and followed my GPS to the HP of Clay County. This one lies about 1/4 mi west of the Park-Putnam-Clay tri-county intersection. After a brief stop at the tri-point, I continued west on Coal Bluff Road (the Clay-Park county line) to the Stevenson residence. I pulled into their drive, parked and walked directly to the house.
I knocked a few times, but no one answered. I walked away from the door to survey the land for its highest point. As I was returning to knock once again, the door opened, and a man greeted me. I explained why I was there, and he soon identified himself as Mr. Stevenson. I had awakened him from an afternoon nap, but he did not seem too disturbed. Mr. Stevenson had heard chatter that the county HP was somewhere around Harmony, but he also knew that a new microwave tower was being installed not far east of him along the Coal Bluff Road. We chatted for a brief time before I thanked him for allowing me to visit his homeland. I agree with Bob that the HP was likely in the area between my truck and the house’s door. I had successfully stepped on that ground, and Clay County was mine. Trip statistics: Time = about 9 minutes, including the visit with Mr. Stevenson; Distance = about 0.1mi for the round trip; Elevation gain = negligible. |
