Ascent Trip ReportDrove 4 hours to a rest stop in Trinidad after work. Woke up in the 4Runner at 4:10 and drove to the trailhead. Didn’t wanna drive the trail road at night. Did the hike, then drove 6 hours BACK to Roswell. Had to work the next morning!
Started at 6:45 and made it to the summit by 11:30. Started back down at 12:30 and back to the 4Runner by 15:45. Went up the ridge and down the gully. Wouldn’t have done it any differently in hindsight. Certainly a challenge though!
Road was a bit rough getting to the upper trailhead, but certainly doable in high clearance 4WD. Runner battery had died upon return to the vehicle, due to me leaving on my ditch lights. Ugh. Some awesome dude gave me a jump and was only “stranded” for 45 minutes lol.
Just a side note, 5 minute walk from the trailhead, and I was rewarded with the best opening eye candy of any hike so far. Blanca/Ellingwood right off the bat, and a gigantic meadow. Gorgeous!!
