Ascent Trip Report

This was an opportunistic ascent, the decision to climb only being made when I realised that we would be passing on the nearby road 412.

We turned off this road along the L10, passed the Hohe Acht hotel and drove on for another couple of kilometres to a rough car park with information boards. The way to this point is signposted from the 412.

From the car park there are gates preventing further motorised progression. We went up the wider track (which is rough but motorable). A more direct route up would have been to take the path beyond the other gate and in fact we took this route down.

But the walk up the longer way is nice up through the woodland at a fairly gentle angle. The route (again signed) switches sharply to the left and soon intersects with the alternative route before some more information signs. From there there is a short, steeper rise to the top.

The Kaiser Wilhelm Turm stands at the top. It is possible to climb this in order to obtain a view over the trees. The summit and marker stand behind. We managed an unhurried 25 minutes up and less than 15 minutes down.

Hohe Acht is a remnant of an ancient volcano and, indeed, the Vulkanstrasse is nearby.
