| Elevation:||4080 ft / 1243 m|
Ascent Trip ReportIf approaching from Independence VA on US 21, ignore the green DOT sign for Comers Rock and Comers Rock Road. This leads to a farm community named Comers Rock at the foot of the mountain. Instead, continue north on US 21 to a gap S of Speedwell VA. Turn left at National Forest Service sign and continue 4 miles up a good gravel road to the Comers Rock campground. From here, you can take the Iron Mountain trail about 1/3 mile to the summit. Just beyond the campground, there is a poorly maintained road that leads within 200 yards of the summit. Climb a series of stone steps to the ruins of a viewing platform. On the day of my visit, I was able to see Elk Knob NC 40 miles S.
