Ascent Trip ReportA moderately easy trail climb to an outstanding panorama ....... 5 miles, 2 hours RT.
After climbing Cunningham we drove to the Camden area with the whole afternoon ahead of us, so I decided to climb Ragged Mountain. Our source of information was John Gibson's "50 hikes in Coastal and Inland Maine", hike #16. I should note the the actual distance to the summit posted at the Georges Higland TH is 2.5 miles and not the 3 miles noted by Gibson.
The Georges Highland TH is located on the southwest side of the mountain, north side of hwy #17 between Mirror Lake and Grassy Pond (2 miles west of junction #17/90 in West Rockport).
The blue blazed trail climbs moderately easy to the summit, capped with a Communication Tower. This climb completes 5 days of an 11 day Hiking Trip to Maine, the primary goal being the outstanding Peaks in the 2 PB Lists ....... Maine County Highponts/Prominence Peaks. As of today there are 8 outstanding Peaks to be done.
Outstanding views of the Camden Hills and the Coast.
"I'VE LEARNED THAT YOU CAN KEEP DOING THE CLIMBING YOU WANT TO DO ..... LONG AFTER OTHERS THINK YOU'RE TOO OLD."
