Ascent Trip Report

Boege and Jordan met me at the trailhead. I was 30 minutes late after hiking their COHP by Copple Crown. We decided to go up Drake’s Brook Trail and maybe loop down Sandwich Mountain Trail. Rain was in the forecast between noon and one which was likely going to be early on our descent. The whole day was thick overcast, but we still had views since the clouds remained above the Whites. The two of them are runners and started out with a quick pace. I was just hanging on. The river crossing was thankfully no big deal and not a problem. After a while, the pitch began to increase and they dropped their pace back, but I stayed more consistent. The hiker was now in his element. We saw a few good mushrooms along the trail. Up high the trail mellowed out after two junctions, but then got steep one more time before we reached the top. We only saw a few people on the trail. A couple coming down told us the view wasn’t anything to write home about. The summit was an obvious rock outcrop, but the view was actually very good. We saw Mt. Washington, Waterville Valley ski area, and many other high peaks in the range. I brought a fluffernutter to celebrate the Sandwich Summit appropriately.
