Ascent Trip Report

Finally got the opportunity to do the triple crown south of Lake Tahoe. I have had my eye on these peaks, Freel specifically since I started baggin' a few years ago. My main hiking buddy's parents moved to Gardnerville a couple years back and we have been using it as a basecamp for many hikes since. We finally found the time for this triple and we picked a fantastic weather day to do it. We went the obvious clockwise direction and were at Freel before we knew it, thinking that it did not feel anywhere as hard as we were expecting. Maybe that's the case, maybe we have had a strong summer backpacking compared to this weightless dayhike. Freel was packed so we ran down the backside and were atop Jobs Sister in 20 minutes or so, taking the time here to finish our breakfast burritos and rest a bit. The boot ski down the backside of Sister was fun, but I almost fell in a couple spots. Jobs was a bit more of a climb than expected, but nothing to complain about. We met some cool people atop Jobs and spent more time than expected up there. We more or less ran back to our car at Horse Meadow with much of the day left to enjoy. To be honest, I must have built this trip up in my head over the years. I didn't really enjoy it as much as expected. Maybe it was the sand or the crowds, maybe we've been on cooler peaks this summer. Whatever it was, they're bagged now and I am happy to have done so.
