Ascent Trip Report

Surprisingly nice hike on one of the hotter days this summer. Hiked down to Tent Lake from the trailhead on road 7400, then continued up the trail to about 8,800 feet. Trail 76 is actually maintained all the way to Twin Lakes unlike what the topo shows. From there I made my way through pleasant open forests and meadows with bad mosquitoes up to Chain Lake, which would make a great camp spot. The scenic west ridge rises toward Tent Mountain from here, providing great views of Torrey Mountain and a myriad of nearby lakes. There are a few spots here where you can opt for either a little exposure and scrambling right on the ridge top or moderate krummholz bushwhacking on the south side.

To make a loop, I dropped down the the enjoyable and scenic east ridge, eventually bushwhacking through open forest along its south branch back to road 7400, which I then followed back to the trailhead. Overall, this peak was a lot nicer than it looked and made for a perfect, engaging outing that was never too trying on this warm day. One of my favorite East Pioneer 10,000 foot peaks so far.
