Ascent Trip ReportAlpine Ascents guided trip with Lakspa Sherpa as the lead guide. 3 day trip:
Day 1: Paradise -> Camp Muir
Easy hike up with full packs (47 lbs) from Paradise to Camp Muir. The route is well marked and even paved down low. We arrived at Camp Muir shortly after lunch time. Tents were provided and because of Covid, everyone had their own tents which was nice.
Day 2: Snow school, then Camp Muir -> High Camp.
Snow school involved various step technics (rest step, duck step, cross over, etc.), then repeat with crampons on. Lastlt, we did some simply ice axe arresting. After lunch, we packed up, roped up and made the trek to "high camp" on the Emmons glacier near the bottom of Disappointment Cleaver. We made dinner (dehy meals) and went to bed before 6pm.
Day 3: High Camp -> Summit -> High Camp -> Camp Muir -> Paradise
The alarm (Lakspa Sherpa) work everyone at midnight with a planned 1am departure. We ate, dressed, roped up and departed at approximately 1:15am. We made our way through the bowling alley over to Disappointment Cleaver where we ascended basically on the ridge. At the top of the Cleaver we took a break. It was extremely windy here so we didn't stop long. From there we followed the "trail" with lots of switch backs and a few anchors up to the crater rim. At the rim we dropped our packs and walked across the football field and ascended the final pitch to the true summit at ~4:45am. There was 1 lenticular cloud sitting on the summit so no real views today. We then retraced our route all the way back down to Paradise with short stops at high camp (to pick our sleeping bags and stuff) and Camp Muir (pick up our stashed gear).
