Ascent Trip Report

The gate on Road 200 is closed after August 15, so I parked there and walked up the road to an unmaintained trail that heads northwest from a spot just past Smart Creek where the road makes a right turn to the southeast. Hiked that steep "trail" (partly marked with ribbons) up to the Crowell Ridge trail, and then took that trail north towards the off-trail area where I ridge-hopped over to Gypsy Peak. (4 1/2 hours total to Gypsy Peak.) Some parts were quite steep and slippery, and there were a lot of repeated climbs and descents over sub-peaks, up and down, but I took it slow so my legs/knees held out okay this time.

At the peak, there was a small jar with a summit register, but no pencil included--and of course I forgot to bring one!

The weather was fairly warm and nicely sunny--beautiful for September 25! The views of course were wonderful.
