Ascent Trip ReportTrailhead is at the Hosp Grove Park in Carlsbad, CA, across from an ecological reserve. Be sure to check out the southwest corner of the park where there is a swamp-like tangle of palm trees and such. There is a colony of tiny frogs there.
It was a June Gloom kind of day in July. Heavy overcast, nice, cooling breeze. Route takes you over the Buena Vista Lagoon and Highway 78; and past several shopping centers. Once past the shopping center, you will be in a residential neighborhood of nice homes and a few spooky relics from bygone days. Follow Jefferson Street to Avocado Road to Fire Mountain Road to Yucca Road. There are no sidewalks and plenty of blind corners, so walk facing traffic.
The Peak aka BM 329 is on the east side of Yucca Road in a fenced off area. Stealth is recommended, as there is a hole in the fence. I found no physical benchmark. There is a relic of an old boiler or water tank and what looks like some kind of a concrete well, adorned with graffiti, of course.
Trip down was uneventful.
