Ascent Trip ReportI hadn't seen many recent ascents of this one with permission. I called Brian at the number listed in previous trip reports, and he got back to me and readily granted permission to hike to the highpoint. I wish all landowners were as nice as him...
I drove in to about a half mile NNW of the highpoint, the last two miles a bit rough but still car passable, reaching an unlocked wire gate (running E-W) and a sign indicating I was entering Nez Perce reservation land. I drove through another few tenths of a mile on a road where I'd recommend high clearance, staying on the main track, till reaching another wire gate (running N-S) with unambiguous No Trespassing signs for the hunting coop. I parked here and headed south, passing over two more wire fences on my way.
Google maps did seem to show a closed contour around the 4765' spot elevation north of the highpoint areas. However, on the ground, this felt somewhat lower than the traditional highpoint candidates, and I don't think needs to be visited. The largest candidate area is likely the highest; from the easternmost candidate, the large candidate looked obviously higher. Lot of wandering around up here if you want to touch high ground. This was a pretty enough area, but not very exciting. I made my way back to the truck and drove out back to western Washington that afternoon.
