Ascent Trip ReportLiberty Springs trail was beautiful. The hike to the summits was challenging but Bara and I refused to quit. You can huff and puff, but never say a discouraging word. We knew to tag Mt Flume, we had to master this trail, so this sunny warm day was as good as any. We've done it before, we can do it today. The tent platforms were really interesting- I'd love to stay there. A natural water spring is there, and its a good thing, because Bara"s dog needed a lot of water! It was about 75 degrees, so I drank 4 liters on this hike.
Mt Liberty and Flume both have outstanding views. Franconia ridge is still my favorite location in the White Mountains. If you make it to the summit of Liberty. Rest, eat, and the trek to Mt Flume and back is not that bad. We eat every energy bar and fruit snack we had to get us through the day- I think the heat made the hike harder.
Some AT hikers filtered water for us, so we had cold water for te long hike back to the trailhead. A hard hike, but a wonderful conquest! 2 more summits for the books.
Day after report. Sore feet and knees, but what do you expect after a 11 mile hike. Took an Alieve and went to work and could bend and stretch very well. I did feel dehydrated.
Another way to gauge how hard a hike was- how long before you unpack the car and backpack...tomorrow morning- |
