Ascent of Mount Sawyer on 2020-07-11
|Others in Party:||Nick B|
|Date:||Saturday, July 11, 2020|
|Ascent Type:||Successful Summit Attained|
| Elevation:||5501 ft / 1676 m|
Ascent Trip ReportBushwacked along the ridge from Mt Finn (the first high point along Tonga Ridge), and scrambled up the west ridge. Some brush and mosquitoes, but nowhere near as bad as going up Finn. Route finding was pretty straightforward with some steep terrain descending from Finn and some light scrambling required to get over a rocky fin on Sawyer's west ridge (no harder than class 2).
There's a class 4 rock step about 150 feet below the summit which Nick climbed, but is easily avoidable by traversing the vegetated slopes just beneath it.
Several other parties on Sawyer's summit and a lot of cars at Tonga Ridge Trailhead.
