Ascent Trip Report

My first 14er!! What can I say but wow! This was an amazing experience.

We camped out at the locked gate with about 30 other cars. I got off to a great pace on the trail and just kept going hard, pushing a pace of about 21 minute miles. I held that pace for the first 6 miles without taking a break. Once I got to around 13,000 feet, I slowed a bit a broke for a couple minutes. I really wanted to summit in under 3 hours. After passing everyone on the trail, I was the 2nd to reach the summit on this day. Had it all to myself for a good 10 minutes before the next group arrived. The views were phenomenal and I was ecstatic.

After an hour on the summit, I passed a lot of people that were still coming up who I had passed hours ago. I started to detour over to Barcroft on the way down but hadn’t heard from my buddy who had turned back for a couple hours. I opted to head back instead. The last two miles were a drag!

This peak should be on everyone’s list! Awesome area!
