Ascent Trip ReportI hiked this mountain and Cobb. Interesting spot; the neighborhood of Whispering Pines doesn't seem perturbed by hikers on Cobb but certainly not advertising the mountain either. I parked at the intersection of Gilford Springs Road and State Route 175, walked up the paved roads to the typical trailhead. The family at the last house on the left was out and wished me luck for the hike; eased my mind about any access issues.
The decrepit logging road headed up to Mt Cobb is faint in some sections due to fire and deadfall. Compared to a real bushwhack, the road is a highway. Compared to an established hiking trail on the other hand- its hard to follow.
Mt Cobb proper has a summit register with all the usual names. I took a meandering route which I later regretted to get to the Sonoma County Highpoint- extensive fire damage and deadfall slowed me to a snail's pace. Nevertheless, I gained the summit and signed the register. On the way back, I made a brief bushwhack from the high point to the much better logging road which lead back to the top of Cobb and followed my same route back to my car.
I didn't encounter any issues except for some suspicious looks back near the highway after dark.
